阿義的故事
前陣子經常看到阿義的故事在網路上轉發，阿義在故事中，是一隻被不人道灌食的豬隻，而目的是一年一度的神豬慶典活動，有些人可能會將這個事件看成單純的動保與宗教間的爭議，但也許我們應該著眼在動物福利的部份，動物福利不只侷限在寵物，其涵蓋了所有的動物，包括經濟動物、實驗動物、野生動物等等，對於這些動物的飼養、運送、犧牲都應有明確的規定，以確保他們最基本的動物福利。相較於台灣，澳洲在這些部分的規定極為詳細，舉個例子，以下是澳洲在經濟動物公路運輸規定的目錄，可以看到每個步驟都有詳細的規範。

台灣在這個部分還有極大的進步空間，然而我們的動物保護法已經有一些基本的規定，不管是什麼動物、什麼用途，即便是宗教相關活動，都應該遵守動物保護法，這是動物最基本的權益，也是我們對於生命最基本的尊重。根據阿義的案例，參照台灣動物保護法，提出幾點可能需要調查是否符合的部分。
第５條 五、以籠子飼養寵物者，其籠內空間應足供寵物充分伸展，並應提供充分之籠外活動時間。
第 6 條 任何人不得騷擾、虐待或傷害動物。
第 9 條 運送動物應注意其食物、飲水、排泄、環境及安全，並避免動物遭受驚嚇、痛苦或傷害。 經中央主管機關公告之動物種類，其運送人員應經運送職前講習結業，取得證書，始得執行運送業務。 前項運送人員經運送職前講習結業並執行業務後，每二年應接受一次在職講習；其運送人員講習、動物運送工具、方式及其他應遵行事項之辦法，由中央主管機關定之。
第 10 條 對動物不得有下列之行為： 五、於屠宰場內，經濟動物未經人道昏厥，予以灌水、灌食、綑綁、拋投、丟擲、切割及放血。
在國際上有許多更為詳細的指南，在不同動物的圈養、運輸、宰殺各個部分提供更為嚴謹的規範，例如 Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)。希望台灣在動物福利的水平可以跟著世界一起提昇，即使要保留宗教民俗的慶典，過程也應該要符合動物保護法，以確保動物福利，也就是說，飼養的過程、運送的過程、秤重的過程與宰殺的過程，都應符合動物福利的五個自由。我想，宗教民俗與動物福利可以不是對立的，可以相輔相成，提昇整體社會的高度，隨著時代與觀念的進步改變作法，讓祈福的過程中，沒有令人爭議的汙點。
